Obituary for Nicholas S Demos

Nicholas Steven Demos passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on December 22 at age 88.

He was preceded in death by his sister Jessica, brother Christopher and many close family members and friends. Nick was survived by the love of his life and wife of more than 63 years, Joan. He is a beloved father to Ricca (Stephen) Voboril, Mark Demos and Matthew (Molly) Demos; dear grandfather to Holly, Lindsay, the late Brennan, Alyssa, Alexandra, Luke and Samuel.

Nick was born and raised in Toledo, Ohio. Though his family’s roots were in Greece, he was a passionate patriot and proudly served in the U.S. Air Force as a photographer to document the Korean War. Photography was not just a career Nick chose; it was part of who he was. A lifelong image maker, he was well-known on Milwaukee’s Southside for capturing generations of families and significant moments in their lives – everything from high school graduations and family portraits to wedding ceremonies and receptions.

He co-owned and operated Demos Photography and Joan of Art in Cudahy with his wife Joan until retiring at the age of 85. Nick is best remembered for his engaging intellect, kind heart and the intense way he savored life – enjoying family, friends, politics, conversation, travel and most of all, food.

Memorial visitation on Wednesday, January 10 at Nativity of Lord (3672 E Plankinton Ave. Cudahy) from 3 to 5 PM with mass to follow. Donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital are requested in lieu of memorial gifts.
